I've missed you...

I'm well aware I have neglected this blog. I am a terrible blog-mother. Very sorry indeed.

Anyway, I have had somewhat good reason. Katie Burrett (.com) has had a very intense and amazing Summer! I've been lucky enough to do things like see Friendly Fires at Mallorca Rocks with my wonderful boyfriend, and work at Creamfields with team Mixmag... also have worked at a brilliant local festival called Brownstock... seen Snoop Dogg and De La Soul in Victoria Park... interned for Front Magazine... Met Diplo... There is just too much to put here! If I've had 3 days off to myself it has been very RARE... I'm not complaining though, I'm lucky to be so busy doing what I love. But there goes my justification of my lack of blogging. If I've been in the house, I've been editing or catching up on sleep. Possibly dying my hair.

My new website, which is being made by me (sort of), will be up in a few weeks. It will feature my recent foray into music photography, something I see being a big part of my future! And also some streetstyle work I've been doing with Armani Exchange recently.

So in conclusion - I'm not dead, and exciting stuff is coming! Bear with me...

Mishka Autumn/Winter (Behind the Scenes)

On Tuesday I conducted some exciting interviews for Mixmag, shadowing a Mishka shoot for the Autumn/Winter lookbook. It was shot by Steve Glashier (brilliant video director and photog) with a tiny team led by Laurence, with me shooting behind-the-scenes images. Very exciting to find out he directed Kila Kela "Built Like An Amplifier" (one of my faves) and Juliette and the Licks "Hot Kiss". Also got some very good advice from him!

Anyway, during the course of the day I was lucky enough to speak to Redlight (DJ Clipz), Peigh, Alix Perez, Subscape and Rod Azlan, who I chatted to in depth about Chatham, the people in it and how his vision of it is -"it's like Brick Lane but with no money"! He is actually from the Medway area himself, so it was interesting to talk to someone so successful doing what he loves about the town and what it holds for us creative types!

I have transcribed the interviews (I did this on the tube while laughing to myself about how I had to record Redlight's again in high speed voices because we didn't press record first time and Rod talking about chips!) but I won't put them up yet until they're all sorted and finalised with Mixmag, as there are two more to come!

Here is one of the images, only sharing it so early just because they used the amazing David Walker's artwork as the background for the shot of Subscape and Rod Azlan! I sincerely hope they use that for the lookbook, would be great coverage. I'll post links to the Mixmag site when all the stuff is up!

Running back to blogger

Like a prodigal son daughter! Fuck you Wordpress, you're too difficult to balance my Usher-loving with. Even the mobile app didn't help my plight. I'll admit it's good, but it makes it into too much of a "thing". Blogging for me was so much more effective when I could quickly update on something I'd done. So for now, it's Blogspot, and Tumblr for all the iphone screengrabs of gigs and street style I should be shooting on the regs.

What has changed since I last posted? Weeellllll...

• I put on the exhibition I posted about with my group, went down a treat! So many visitors and yummy sponsorship from Vitamin Water
• My boyfriend has acquired a PS3, as much as I love it and C.O.D Black Ops, I am now usually shunned on a weeknight
• I've managed to swing a Summer placement at Front Magazine...! Also covering street-style at Lovebox, V and Creamfields for Mixmag (really excited about this), as well as the upcoming Kitsuné x Ponystep party at Heaven on Easter Sunday. What a way to spend it...
• My wonderful friend Georgina is assisting me in obtaining some Doc Martens, these specifically, I think they will do nicely for stomping around Essex/wandering around fests... maybe pick up some Hunters too! Now that I have silly long hair I also want a floppy hat.

• I have decided to continue my studies in third year whilst commuting from home. It's close to Stratford, which has a direct high speed train to Uni, so I will save a fortune. I'm travelling so much at the mo anyway it makes sense...
• Probably loads of other stuff I will update as and when, my poor brain isn't functioning today!

CASETTE PLAYA & AMBUSH COLLABORATE FOR S/S 2011

Japanese brand Ambush collaborates with Cassette Playa to create pendants, bracelets, brooches and more.

Really love this collection and think it works brilliantly, anything Casette Playa touches is usually gold anyway but this is on another level!

The collection will be released early next year and I got hold of the lookbook while at Mixmag, which shows pieces mixed with complementary clothing that really show it off.

Working for Mixmag

So this month, all my widest dreams came true and I was given a placement at Mixmag HQ in Islington. It was definitely the best placement I've ever done, and I rediscovered my secret love of writing.

The best bit being, this month I will be published! (I actually squealed in the office when I found this out...) I have suggested my top five nights out for December to January so please check it out! and researched "fun facts" and witty quips on each night, they probably aren't very funny but I got wikipedia madness pretty quickly...

I have also been contributing online at Mixmag Fashion and here is a not so flattering post featuring me giving it my all in a tomato fight...

Here we are at Golden Square in Soho, after running for the bus and onto the tube, running to Soho, getting fully kitted out and then having 15 minutes free to comprehend what we had signed up for... I wondered if everyone who had stayed at the office had infact had the right idea, but we ended up having a great time! Tomatoes are harder than I thought though...

Other stuff I did included clearing out a mammoth shelf (which made me quite legendary), scanned a lot of magazine covers, researched fashion topics, did fashion returns to PR companies and more... will have to have a proper think! These two weeks have gone so fast, I've moved back to the delightful Chatham (where 'Coppers' is based) and even though I'm enjoying my first lazy day in ages, I'm missing work being work and evenings, or what is left of them, being free to go to exhibitions, restaurants and the like!

I left on a high at 'That Mixmag Thing' at The Queen of Hoxton on Friday night, which was so good and had all the free Agua I could shake a stick at, but made handling a camera more and more difficult. I will upload some photos when I start editing.

I will be carrying on writing for Mixmag Fashion and taking snaps, waiting on my Mixmag ID to come through... exciting stuff!
